Earl Gill III Obituary, Death – Ehrhardt Man Killed in Train and 18-Wheeler Crash
Earl Gill III, 55, of Ehrhardt, South Carolina, died Friday evening following a collision involving an 18-wheeler and a train near St. George.
The crash occurred at approximately 6:30 p.m. at the railroad crossing on Gum Branch Road, off Highway 78. According to authorities, the tractor-trailer was crossing the railroad tracks when the collision occurred.
Gill was driving the 18-wheeler and suffered fatal injuries. The Dorchester County Coroner pronounced him dead at the scene at approximately 7:45 p.m. His identity was later confirmed by the coroner’s office.
An autopsy is scheduled to take place at the Medical University of South Carolina. Officials have not released additional details about what led to the collision.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol and the Dorchester County Coroner’s Office are investigating the crash. The circumstances surrounding the collision remain under investigation.
